Golf is one sport that hasn’t been affected by the crisis. According to the chief executive of the International Association of Golf Tourism Operators, Peter Walton, golf is one of the only international tourism sectors that is continuing to grow in spite of economic and financial uncertainty lurking throughout the globe.

Speaking at the ‘Golf In A Kingdom’ destination marketing program in Bangkok, Thailand late last month, Walton expressed that not only did the golf tourism sector recover faster than other sectors in the 2008 global financial crisis but was one of a few sectors that actually continued to grow.

In addition to this, Walton also said that golf tourism was predicted to surpass 50 million tourists this year, with the possibility of reaching the 2007 highs of 55 million, before the global economic downturn.

Taylor Wimpey España records bumper month with a 15% increase in sales in September

Taylor Wimpey España’s property sales rose by 15% last month across Spain, while UK enquiries alone increased by 45.5% compared to September last year, according to company data.

Costa Blanca feels the heat as increasing numbers of tourists flock to Spain

Between January and March this year, Spain received 9 million international tourists; an increase of 2.9% over the same three month period last year reveals the latest data from The Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade. Some of them will end up buying a home.

Mallorca sales figures double for Taylor Wimpey de España

The most established British developer in Spain, Taylor Wimpey de España, announced this week that 2010 has seen increases of up to 50% in sales from last year. And it is the Balearic island of Mallorca that has played a major part in bolstering the figures by doubling their year on year sales.

Javier Ballester, Managing Director of Taylor Wimpey de España comments on the news ahead of the official yearend figures:

“Sales to foreign buyers have been driven by the price adjustments that the Spanish market has seen; in Mallorca properties have seen reductions of up to 25%. Taylor Wimpey de España has of course followed the market closely and worked with the market conditions to maintain a buoyancy of sales which has proved effective. We are now looking at launching more developments to keep up with the current demand.”

“Mallorca has seen particularly positive figures due to two important factors. Firstly, we were not hugely overstocked as the recession hit so the supply and demand was always in our favour. Secondly, Mallorca is still considered a unique place and in many ways superior to some of the mainland destinations.
